Main point is, this argument is not even against bots but against those who wrongly used bots to spam lobbies. At that time, those bots provided functionalities even blizzard still could not implement today yet.
Tool that was created by community that was left to rot with launch of SC2. That is what host bots, nothing else, nothing more. I had to wait for other 17 people who were using over 15 hostbots in parallel to play their games.
So dead…. Now we are stuck with a patch that killed both custom games and ladder with desyncs. How Awesome…. Now that everyone can host without port forwarding, bots have become obsolete. Why are we still arguing? If people could have hosted on their own from the start there would have been no bots in the first place. And who needs custom map ranking or stats? Custom games always were and are meant to be played for fun not competitively. Custom Melee games are for practice and for clan wars.
If I want to keep track of my stats I would simply play ladder. Realtime search filter is way more efficient. True, Bots were a tool created to fix a specific problem which is hosting, however, it was not a dull tool, it kept evolving by community to meet whatever needs the community needed. When StarCraft Broodwar was in the make, it was meant to be an normal RTS game not the starting point for Esports, same with WarCraft 3, when it was designed it was not for competitive scene but for fun.
True, if only Blizzard actually cared for ladder and removed all those trolls. Again, another factor of ladder is Team games Arranged and Random which is infested with trolls, afk, team killers… etc.
Blizzard is not doing a thing for them. Community used host bots like 4v4 melee and FFA bots to keep those idiots away since Blizzard did not care.
