How long is llyn padarn

Carved out by glaciers pouring down the valley from the high peaks of the Glyderau and Snowdon mountain ranges, at its western end is one of the best sunrise locations in Snowdonia. In the 13th century Llywelyn the Great built Dolbadarn Castle on a small hilltop with views north west over Llyn Padarn towards the coast and south east into the high mountains.

Brynrefail is 3 miles west of Llanberis. From Llanberis go north west for 2. Continue for metres then turn right. Continue for m until the road turns sharply left. There is limited roadside parking before the bridge.

Continue for metres to reach the Padarn Country Park parking area on the right. Continue metres to the large car park on the left. Great views can be had from the bridge itself using the reeds below for foreground.

Still conditions turn the lake into a mirror with the mountains and sky perfectly reflected. With a longer lens you can get closer to the mountains, the hills and trees on either side creating a natural frame.

Continue across the bridge turning right and following the wall to a small gap where you can access the lake shore below the bridge. This last section intersperses boardwalks, paths and a short section of pavements.

Just take care with little ones on the short section of pavement as it can spring up on you quite quickly. As you walk through this final section be sure to head into the country park to seek out the famous lonely tree. It is, without doubt, one of the most iconic images in all of Snowdonia. All in all, Llyn padarn is a beautiful family-friendly walk in truly stunning surroundings.

You can see and download our route here. Impressed that your little ones managed 6 miles, proper kids of the wild! Sounds like a beautiful and educational walk, love the giant sword in the stone too AdventureCalling. This is right up my street. Exploring and plenty of opportunities for photos.

Snowdonia is on my list of places to camp this year. Beautiful photos, I love the lonely tree. The slate splitting sounds interesting but I think I would give the post mortem room in the hospital a miss! We are still hoping to visit Snowdonia in early August this year so I will be coming back to Potty Adventures for lots of tips.

Lovely photos guys. Sarah adventurecalling. Incredibly beautiful! Great photos of it all too? The slate museum and the old hospital sound very exciting as well! We love a great circular walk and this looks like a wonderful walk for the whole family. Your walks always look so spectacular, makes me very jealous! Love your photos and sounds like an amazing area for family friendly routes. I might have to give the mortuary room a miss though! Attractions within the vast Padarn Country Park also include the old Quarry Hospital Museum, the Welsh Slate Museum, a number of lakeside picnic areas and various crafts and adventure activities.

There are five themed woodland, lakeside and industrial heritage trails to explore, as well as extreme sports including rock climbing, orienteering, scuba diving, rowing, canoeing and sailing. The park grounds are open all year round and ample car parking facilities are available on site. Related stories. Topics: Coastline.
